Martin & Raynor, P.C. Firm History
Martin & Raynor, P.C. traces its origin to 1956, when Lewis A. Martin, Jr. (UVa Law ’51), a native of Charlottesville, began his general law practice with the firm of Taylor and Deets, which soon merged with another local firm to become Michie, Taylor, Camblos, Deets, and Martin. In the 1960’s, Mr. Martin practiced with Edward H. Deets, Jr., in the firm of Deets and Martin. For approximately ten years, he was a sole practitioner, until joined by his son, Lewis A. Martin, III, (UVa Law ’79) with whom he formed the partnership of Martin & Martin in 1979.
On March 1, 1994, Lewis A. Martin, III, and Steven L. Raynor (UVa Law ’85), also a Central Virginia native, who had practiced in Charleston, WV and with Fred G. Wood, Jr. in Charlottesville, before establishing his own Charlottesville firm in 1992, combined their law practices to form Martin & Raynor, P.C. Together Mr. Martin and Mr. Raynor diligently undertook to establish the premier full-service law firm in Central Virginia, comprised of carefully selected attorneys of the highest professional capabilities and ethical standards, who would concentrate in a variety of practice areas to serve the diverse legal needs of the firm’s large and expanding individual and business clientele.
On November 1, 2005, Martin & Raynor, P.C. opened an office in Harrisonburg, Virginia, enabling it to serve clients in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. Firmly rooted in Central Virginia and expanding throughout the Commonwealth, the firm is dedicated to steady growth consistent with its goal of providing quality legal services. Martin & Raynor, P.C. welcomes new clients and looks forward to establishing lasting relationships like those the firm enjoys with the children and grandchildren of clients of Lewis Martin, Jr.
